Episode 219 – Ned Hastings on The Muppet Movie Soundtrack

Ned Hastings has edited and produced some of your favorite Adult Swim shows, and he’s not alone at that groundbreaking sub-network in loving The Muppets.  He picked something we both love – the soundtrack to The Muppet Movie.

Episode 158 – Paul Gilmartin on George Carlin – Class Clown

Gilmartin_SD

We’re back on a favorite, and not long since the last time we covered it.  I’m not sure if it’s just the demand of listening to the album more than I normally would, but the amazing Paul Gilmartin of The Mental Illness Happy Hour have a great discussion about this album, and also what it means to get the right kind of laughs, and to succeed, comedy-wise, on your own terms.

Episode 155 – Lee Camp on George Carlin – Class Clown

LeeCamp_SD

He’s a stand up, an author, and the host of Redacted Tonight.  Give his work a listen and it’ll become obvious why the influence of Carlin was so important to him.  We discuss Class Clown and how important it is to have not only a point of view and a voice, but a reason for being on stage.  Not all stand ups necessarily agree that their work should have a point beyond laughter, but Lee’s a strong proponent of having one, and we have a great discussion about the purpose behind his material.

Episode 154 – Andy Merrill on Steve Martin – Lets Get Small

Merrill_SD

He’s the voice of Brak, one of the writers of Space Ghost: Coast to Coast, and a big fan of Steve Martin.  We have a lot of fun talking about obscure comedy as well as this, one of the most well-known there is.

Throwback – Episode 101 – July 2014 – Brendon Small on Steve Martin

Brendon Small

We don’t have a new episode week, so let’s go back a year.  In July of 2014, the wonderful Brendon Small stopped by his own place to talk about Steve Martin’s “Let Get Small.”

You can check out the original episode here: http://goo.gl/eLyBS4.

Episode 101 – Brendon Small on Steve Martin – Lets Get Small

Brendon Small
Metalocalypse and Home Movies’ own Brendon Small drops by at his own place to discuss “Let’s Get Small” for, somehow, only the second episode in our show’s history to cover it.  This time, we’re talking to a musician and comedian, so we discuss both sides of the Steve Martin coin, and also comedy and music nerdery.  This episode is the second in an unofficial and unintentional mini-series, following Dave Hill on “Wild And Crazy Guy” a few weeks back – two awesome comedian/musicians talking about Steve Martin’s insanely influential best works.

Episode 96 – Matthew Senreich and Zeb Wells of Robot Chicken on Bill Cosby, Adam Sandler and More

Robot Chicken
Matthew Senreich & Zeb Wells were kind enough to let me into the inner sanctum of the Robot Chicken production offices for a quick chat about what inspired them (Bill Cosby, Richard Pryor and Adam Sandler among them), comedy-wise, and what it takes to make sketch comedy your own, even if it is with someone else’s toys.

Episode 75 – Daniel Weidenfeld on Chris Rock – Bring the Pain

Daniel Weidenfeld co-executive produces the wonderfully surreal “China, IL” on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim with the show’s creator, Brad Neely.  Daniel wanted to talk about Chris Rock’s “Bring the Pain,” and we had a great time doing it.

Episode 72 – Derrick Beckles

Derrick Beckles

Derrick Beckles dropped by to talk Canada, humor, Canadian humor, Rusty Warren and his comedy influences in general.  It was a hell of a lot of fun.  He’s the host and creator of Adult Swim’s alternate-universe entertainment show Hot Package, which you should watch Thursdays at 12:45 AM.
