Episode 77 – DISCovery, Episode A – James Urbaniak Introduces Sara Pocock to An Evening with Mike Nichols and Elaine May

Cheech Tom & Chong

Sara Pocock proposed the idea that someone should introduce her to something brand-new, at least to her.  A classic she’d never heard of, or never new was important enough to listen to.  She picked the authority – James Urbaniak.  James picked one of the best – An Evening with Mike Nichols and Elaine May.  Because I can’t think of a better title, I’m calling this subseries “DISCovery.”  Submissions for better titles are welcome.

Also, coming back this week is bittersweet.  A few weeks ago, my wife lost her father, Tom Smith, who you’ll see with Cheech and Chong above in a photo I finally got to see when I was putting together the photos for his memorial.  Naturally, I was hoping I’d get to hear more of the story behind the photo from Tom himself, but I do know he got to interview two of my heroes.  My picture with Philip Proctor, though, was of an experience Tom coveted, himself, so we got to share our love of comedy that way.

Episode 61 – Sara Pocock on Paul F. Tompkins – Freak Wharf

sarapocockThis week I talk with the insanely talented Sara Pocock!  You need to look at her art – she draws a lot of comedians and illustrates some great characters from podcasts (Fourvel from Comedy Bang Bang! being a personal favorite).  We talk about Paul F. Tompkins, the fact that she’s WAY more a live comedy nerd than I am, and what it’s like to work with the comedians you admire.
