Episode 95 – Taylor Jessen on The Credibility Gap – Floats

Taylor_JessenThis week, Jason does his usual stellar job of keeping the show on track.  No, seriously, it gets worse.  Why?  Because Taylor Jessen is not only Firesign’s archivist, but he restores comedy vinyl.  All those pops and hisses that can kill a joke or a pause?  Yeah, he can smooth those over and then tweak the cover so it looks like it did the day the original owner bought it in the store.  He does it all out of a desire to get it out there, so as you can imagine I was waiting with bated breath to have him on to nerd out, even if he far out nerds me.  We also talk about a great Credibility Gap album, “Floats,” and the clips I play in the show are from his restored version.

Welcome to Our New Listeners

Over the last week, our subscriber numbers have more than doubled.  We can’t explain it, but that’s not what we’re here to do.  We’re here to thank you for spreading the word.  For a small podcast with no sponsors and no budget to advertise, we’re grateful to fans for word of mouth.  More audience simply means more people getting to learn about comedy from a specific point in time – a comedian’s greatest obsession from their youth.

As always, if you have suggestions for albums you’d like us to discuss, especially something rare we’ve never heard, send them along!  You can always e-mail myself, Jason, at jason@comedyonvinyl.com, or our producer, Mike, at mike@comedyonvinyl.com.

Once again, thanks for your loyal listenership, and whatever it is you did to let people know about our show.  We’re proud of it, and proud to have you as a fan-type-person.

Have a Good Thing,
Jason Klamm

Episode 92 – Brandie Posey on Billy Connolly – Big Yin

BrandiePoseyThe awesome Brandie Posey (Lady to Lady Podcast) talks about the man who helped solidify her choice to become a standup – Billy Connolly.  Coincidentally, the first comedy album I remember listening to was a Connolly compilation, so it was a ton of fun to talk Billy Connolly and comedy in general.  Once you’re done, be sure to subscribe to her podcast, “Lady to Lady.”

Coming Soon: Another Episode of People Talking

Sorry for the delay, but we have a ton of episodes coming up soon, and they’re all particularly fun and interesting people, and we’re sticking to comedy albums much more strictly, now.  Often, I get enthused to speak with people, or am asked to speak to them and become enthused, and I forget that, really, the podcast has it’s title for a good reason (we’ll still break from vinyl on occasion, because it’s getting less and less likely that up-and-comers were big vinyl comedy people).  So worry not!  More good stuff coming soon.

Episode 91 – Jim Cummings

Jim CummingsI don’t have the words.  And you can tell.  I’m not ashamed to get flustered, obviously, but Jim is a hero of mine, and has been for 20-plus years.  He was the first voice actor whose name I learned and whose work I looked for every time I watched something animated.  This was a complete honor, and we talk Cosby and Smothers.
