Episode 105 – Dave Waite on George Carlin – A Place for My Stuff

Dave WaiteDave Waite‘s comedy album Hotdoggin’ comes out tomorrow, August 12th on Stand Up! Records.  Today, he talks about one of his favorite albums, chosen at random from a few contenders – George Carlin’s A Place for My Stuff, which was a ton of fun to revisit.  Stand up mixed with sketch is hard to do right, and while Carlin does, it’s easy to see why few people have done it right since – namely, it’s hard to be that brilliant as a stand up and then also spend the time to translate your unique voice into sketch.  Awesome stuff.

On a sad note, the world lost Robin Williams today.  Listen toward the end for two clips from my favorite Robin Williams film, Good Morning, Vietnam.

Episode 76 – John Dimaggio on George Carlin – Class Clown

John DimaggioThis week, the Bender head comes off the bookshelf for the man behind the shiny metal ass.  John DiMaggio is not only the voice of Bender, and of Jake on Adventure Time, but he’s also a huge Carlin fan.  We sat down and talked a mutual favorite album, Class Clown, and I had the good fortune to watch and hear him imitate Carlin.  Amazing stuff.  John’s also the producer and narrator of the new documentary “I Know That Voice,” about almost every voice actor you’ve ever heard.  I Know that Voice will be on demand from December 1-21st, and available on iTunes starting January 7, 2014.

Oh, and in this episode, I also come up with an idea for the greatest a capella group ever.
