Episode 153 – Dan Telfer on Bob and Doug McKenzie – The Great White North

Telfer_SD

He’s an amazing stand-up, a writer for @midnight, and he was kind enough to pull this week’s album up on his phone since I gave away my vinyl to the last guest who picked it as that week’s album.  Dan Telfer breaks down his love of “The Great White North” and sketch comedy in general, and then, because we haven’t had the discussion on the show yet, we talk Cosby.  Because we both used to love him, and we both have our ways of expressing our change of heart.  It’s a good episode.

Episode 104 – Elan Mastai on The McKenzie Bros – The Great White North

Elan Mastai
His film What If?, starring Daniel Radcliffe and Zoe Kazan opens in limited theatres today, and nationwide Friday, August 15.  Elan Mastai is Canadian, and isn’t afraid to change his accent to subvert the US and take it over.  Again, his film opens today.

He also picked an awesome, self-referential, super-meta comedy album from 1981 – Bob and Doug McKenzie’s (aka Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas) “The Great White North.”  It’s a piece of punk comedy that, like all successful punk things, got super popular.  Unlike some punk, though, this still has legs.  Enjoy, and check out What If?

Episode 72 – Derrick Beckles

Derrick Beckles dropped by to talk Canada, humor, Canadian humor, Rusty Warren and his comedy influences in general.  It was a hell of a lot of fun.  He’s the host and creator of Adult Swim’s alternate-universe entertainment show Hot Package, which you should watch Thursdays at 12:45 AM.
